Why we are different:
Covenstead does not work with in-house agents, author mills, vanity presses or warehouse distributors. We offer wholesale prices only to independent bookstores (who may place orders as small as one book) or to chain companies willing to purchase a minimum of one-hundred books. Everyone else pays retail-and that keeps money in the pockets of our authors. We accept PayPal, and credit cards through PayPal, for these orders.
Our books will never go out of print because interest has waned. We use a combination of short-run and POD technology to make sure that the whole of our catalog is available at all times with a maximum turn around of eight business days. The only way we'd stop printing a book is if we discovered a major flaw with that book, such as plagiarism or intentional inaccuracy. You can rest assured that if your book becomes recommended by a teacher or other expert, it will be there for the students who need it unless you, the author, decide otherwise.
We don't care about the size of the audience. If you are writing about one type of magic, one tradition of Wicca, one family's history or the revelation of one prophet, we will publish it if we think it is something our highly educated, highly diverse membership will appreciate. We don't think that books should be marketed to the least common denominator. We follow a rule of fifty- we will publish a high-quality obscure book if we think that we can sell fifty copies in five years.
We are dedicated to furthering the esoteric and occult communities. We do not choose books based on who the author knows, how many books we can sell to teenagers, what sign the author is or how glitzy their name is. We choose authors because their work is good. Right Hand Path, Left Hand Path or somewhere in-between, if it is quality, it is welcomed here.
All of our authors become member-workers of Covenstead Press. This means that they are intimately involved with the production of their book. As the author, they have the ability to fully veto a cover or change to their book, without fear of reprimand or not getting published.
Most importantly, we're different because we love the books we publish.
